MCD is looking for an Medical Entomology Advisor for its BIMEP project, that will oversees all entomological monitoring activities, including vector density, insecticide resistance, and vector control implementation. Responsibilities include managing mosquito collections, larval surveys, insecticide efficacy testing, and optimizing vector control strategies like larval source management (LSM) and long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLIN). The MEA provides technical and managerial support to the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) and partners on indoor residual spraying (IRS), LLIN distribution, and other vector control activities. The role involves mentoring NMCP entomologists, conducting operational research, and supporting monitoring and evaluation of vector control programs, including managing a Vector Control Laboratory. The MEA coordinates with various research institutions and ensures data management and reporting, while fostering collaborations with in-country stakeholders and donors.
You will
- Plan and Coordinate Field-based Vector Monitoring and Support of Vector Control Activities
- Vector Monitoring, such as Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) and Other Vector Control Measures, such as exploring and implementing supplemental vector control activities outside of IRS, such as breeding site identification and control and housing improvements
- Capacity Building of National Staff
- Support the implementation of an effective IEC/BCC plan and activities promoting acceptance of IRS and the use of LLINs
- Hang-up, keep-up and effective use of Long-lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLINs):
- Represent MCD and the BIMEP in relevant meetings with the MOHSW, the National Malaria Control Program, and partner organizations
- Assist in the production of sections of the quarterly and annual BIMEP Progress Reports based on the standard format developed for the Project, as well as preparation of presentations for national, regional and international technical meetings, and other relevant bulletins, news releases, and analyses of Project performance as required
You have
- A graduate and post-graduate degree in Medical Entomology (or equivalent), PhD preferred.
- At least five years’ field and laboratory experience working as an entomologist preferably within a malaria control program. PhD studies may be considered as compensatory for lack of applied field experience.
- Good interpersonal skills, team player, able to work under stress. Sensitivity to the concerns of the developing world and able to work with local and national authorities and community-based providers from different cultural backgrounds.
- Willingness to conduct extensive field work, traveling and residing under difficult conditions.
- Good oral and written communication skills, English and working knowledge of Spanish; willingness to receive intensive training in Spanish, as needed, during the contract period.
- Highly computer literate, familiar with Microsoft Office applications , database management, statistical analysis, presentations, and electronic communication.
- Teaching experience would be an asset.
