MCD is looking for an Malaria Technical Coordinator for its BIMEP project, that will serve as the technical lead for the Bioko Island Malaria Elimination Project, working in close consultation with the BIMEP Director and home office technical team to provide strategic direction and oversight across all technical components. The position focuses on sustainable capacity building of national staff while ensuring technical decisions and strategies are developed collaboratively with key stakeholders. As a key senior position supporting the Country Director, the BIMEP-MTC ensures technical excellence within BIMEP while effectively coordinating with other MCD projects in Equatorial Guinea. The role advances the project’s elimination goals through evidence-based strategies and robust operational research. Success in this role requires strong coordination skills and the ability to build consensus among multiple stakeholders while maintaining technical rigor.

You will

Technical Leadership & Strategic Direction

  • Develop and implement technical strategies for all BIMEP components in close consultation with the BIMEP Director and home office technical team, covering case management and diagnostics, social behavior change and communication, monitoring and evaluation/GIS operations, health information systems, vector control, and entomological surveillance
  • Coordinate BIMEP technical activities with other MCD projects in Equatorial Guinea, supporting the Country Director in maintaining programmatic excellence and identifying opportunities for synergy
  • Develop and maintain technical partnerships with key stakeholders including MOHSW, NMCP, academic institutions, and implementing partners
  • Oversee the technical quality of all project components, ensuring alignment with WHO guidelines and international best practices

Capacity Building & Professional Development

  • Design and implement comprehensive capacity building strategies for national technical leads, emphasizing leadership development and technical expertise
  • Create and oversee individual professional development plans for key national staff, incorporating mentoring, training, and growth opportunities
  • Lead the transition of technical responsibilities to national staff through structured mentoring and skills transfer programs

Program Management & Coordination

  • Coordinate technical activities across all BIMEP components, ensuring alignment with project goals and elimination strategy
  • Oversee the development and implementation of annual work plans and technical strategies
  • Lead technical reporting and documentation, including quarterly reports, scientific publications, and presentation materials
  • Support resource mobilization and proposal development for program expansion
  • Oversee budget planning and management for technical activities

Technical Quality Assurance

  • Establish and maintain quality standards across all technical components
  • Review and approve technical protocols, SOPs, and implementation guidelines
  • Ensure data quality and use for decision-making across all technical components
  • Develop and implement quality improvement strategies

Stakeholder Management

  • Represent BIMEP in technical forums and coordination meetings
  • Build and maintain relationships with technical partners, donors, and government stakeholders
  • Support the Country Director in high-level technical discussions and strategic planning
  • Lead engagement with scientific advisory committees

Research & Scientific Publication

  • Lead the development and implementation of operational research strategies aligned with project goals
  • Design and oversee research studies to evaluate program effectiveness and generate evidence for decision-making
  • Coordinate with academic partners on research initiatives and manuscript development

You have

  • Advanced degree (PhD preferred, Master’s required) in Public Health, Epidemiology, or related field
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in malaria control/elimination programs, with at least 3 years in leadership positions
  • Demonstrated expertise in multiple technical areas: vector control, surveillance, case management, monitoring & evaluation
  • Proven track record in capacity building and mentoring national staff
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience in designing and implementing operational research
  • Experience managing large-scale health programs in Africa
  • Strong leadership, diplomatic, and interpersonal skill
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish (B2-C1)
